New Black Myth: Wukong trailer debuts at Gamescom 2023

With Gamescom 2023 kicking off this week, Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live showcase is teasing some of the highlights of the event. While the majority of the show is focused on a series of world premieres, Black Myth: Wukong is also getting some attention as the game’s first trailer debuts at the event.

The action-RPG from Chinese developer Game Science has been highly anticipated since it debuted back in 2020 with its impressive graphics and epic Soulslike gameplay. Initially intended to attract talent for the small studio, the trailer quickly went viral and became one of the year’s most hyped titles. Now, a full reveal for the game is set to occur during the showcase.

Taking inspiration from Soulsborne titles, Black Myth: Wukong lets players take control of a monkey based on Sun Wukong, known in-game as the “Destined One.” The fast-paced combat might look familiar to fans of the genre but some new ideas are being injected here to help set it apart, including tonal shifts between boss fights and the ability to transform into flying insects or giant monsters. The new trailer is sure to please fans and entice them to learn more about the game.

Another highlight of the evening’s festivities was a brand-new trailer for Tekken 8. Set to release in summer 2024 on current-generation consoles and PC, the new footage offers up more glimpses of the action-packed fighter’s new features. With a deeper story and iconic characters, Tekken 8 is poised to become the next great addition to the franchise.

Other games featured in the showcase included a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which takes place in a Middle East setting and is set to launch next month. The new trailer gives viewers an up-close look at the intricate details that will be present in the game.

Also making an appearance was Marvel Snap, a melee multiplayer PVP game from From Software. The video presented a new class and highlighted the game’s upcoming launch on all platforms.

Also slated to hit the market in 2024 is a new entry in the HoYoverse series, Zenless Zone Zero. The new trailer offered up new gameplay and revealed the new characters that will be available in the upcoming adventure. The last trailer featured a live performance by composer Inon Zur, who played a track from the upcoming game. For those not attending the event in person, a YouTube channel will be providing a front-row seat to all of the action. Stay tuned to this channel for updates on Gamescom’s 2023 Opening Night Live showcase.
